What are
you thankful for this year?
Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and the Imperial Court de San Diego and the First Unitarian
Universalist
Church
need your support, either by personal volunteer work or by
your generous donation.
The ‘20th Anniversary of the Scott
Carlson Thanksgiving Dinner for the HIV/AIDS Community and
their Family and Friends will take place on Thursday
November 27th from11:15 AM with dinner commencing
at 12:00 PM and concluding at 2:30PM at the Bard Hall of the
First Unitarian Universalist Church, 4190 Front Street, San
Diego, CA.

At this time of the year as we all gather with
family and friends for a day of Thanksgiving I am reminded
of a story that I came across some years back that I would
like to share with you as follows:
‘A little boy wanted to meet God. ‘
“He knew it
was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his
suitcase with a bag of potato chips, and a six-pack of root
beer and started his journey.
When he had
gone about three blocks, he met an old woman. She was
sitting in the park, just staring at some pigeons. The boy
sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about
to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the
old lady looked hungry, so he offered her some chips. She
gratefully accepted and smiled at him. Her smile was so
pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered
her a root beer. Again, she smiled at him. The boy was
delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling,
but they never said a word. As twilight approached, the boy
realized how tired he was and he got up to leave; but before
he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran
back to the old woman, and gave her a hug. She gave him her
biggest smile ever.
When the boy
opened the door to his own house a short time later, his
mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She
asked him, 'what did you do today that made you so happy?'
He replied, 'I had lunch with God.' Before his mother could
respond, he added, 'You know what? She's got the most
beautiful smile I've ever seen!'
Meanwhile,
the old woman, also radiant with joy, returned to her home.
Her son was stunned by the look of peace on her face and he asked,
'Mother, what did you do today that made you so happy?' She
replied,
'I ate potato chips in the park with God.' And before her
son responded, she added, 'You know, he's much younger than
I expected.'
Too often we
underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a
listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of
caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life
around.
People come
into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
Embrace all
equally
Have lunch
with God ..... bring chips “
So if you
find it in your hearts to volunteer a little of your time or
to donate funds for the dinner please contact: Linny at

A Message from the Queen Mother of the America’s Empress Nicole the Great
Rodeo International Association and the Imperial
Court System
This past weekend I was honored by the Golden State
Gay Rodeo Association and the Greater San Diego
Chapter as its ”Community Grand Marshal”. I had not
been to a Rodeo in almost 2 decades and it was a
wonderful rediscovery on Rodeo Chapters and GLBT
“Cowboys” and “Cowgirls”.
I had a great time and left with much
excitement and respect for all the serious
competition, comradery between men and women, their
pride and sense of family…… it was very enlightening
of the great contributions to our community that all
those associated with the Rodeo Chapters have been
doing for decades.
The first Rodeo was held on Oct. 2, 1976 in Reno…
founded by Emperor I Phil Raysdale and supported by
his Empress I Keith Ann and the Imperial Court of
Reno which sponsored the next 3 or 4 Reno Rodeos.
Gay Rodeos soon spread to Denver 1983, Texas
1984 and California 1985.
Thus the International Court System and the
International Gay Rodeo Association have a long
history of support
and friendship.
I will be formally inviting I.G.R.A. officers to our
next International Court Council of Canada, U.S.A.,
Mexico meeting in Portland to make an official
presentation about the Rodeo Association’s
outstanding record, history and contributions to
educate us more about the Rodeo Chapters and
hopefully bring a closer relationship, friendship,
and level of support between our two International
Organizations whose chapters share many mutual
memberships.
I salute all the Rodeo chapters and thank them for
their being role models and examples of what makes
our GLBT community such a great, diverse, and
compassionate community.
I look forward to a possible beginning of a
closer relationship of friendship and support and
hope that they will accept our invitation to address
the I.C.C. in Portland.

WHERE: In

Ca. 92103
WHY:
The Boy Scouts of America (“BSA”) discriminates against LGBT
and atheist scouts and leaders, and does not allow female
scouts to join. Furthermore, the BSA receives special
treatment by local governments, including
San Diego, which allows it to carry
on its discrimination on public property, or to lease public
lands with taxpayer subsidies. The BSA continues to lease
public property in Balboa Park, at a discounted rate, and uses a boat dock on Fiesta
Island
free despite a court order.
The Scouting For
All volunteer staff, members and volunteers believe Scouting
is a wonderful program, but it should be a program for all
youth not just some youth. Lord Baden Powell, the founder of
the World Scouting Movement in 1907 founded Scouting on the
principle that Scouting would be offered to all youth and
thereby providing them an opportunity to grow and develop as
individuals and to help contribute in making this world a
better place. We believe there is no room in Scouting for
bigotry and discrimination.
Scouting For All
is assembling a diverse group of speakers from the LGBT,
straight, non-theist, and faith-based communities to protest
against the Boy Scouts of America ’s policies of exclusion.
Current BSA National policy specifically excludes youth who
are gay, atheist, or agnostic. Additionally, the BSA
excludes youth who are the children of lesbian, gay,
transgender, bisexual or non-theist parents. We seek to
persuade the public to exert influence on the BSA so that
all children and adults are once again welcome participants
in the scouting program.
About Scouting for All Founded in 1997,
Scouting for All is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that advocates the restoration of the traditionally unbiased values of Scouting as expressed and embodied in the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. The group
seeks to influence the Boy Scouts of America to serve and include as participating members all
youth and adult leaders, regardless of their spiritual belief, gender or sexual orientation.

Yesterday Ed and I had the great pleasure to attend
the Imperial
Court de
San Diego’s “Take Me To Broadway
Benefit Show” at the newly opened FLAME in Hillcrest.
The event was well attended by friends and
members of the Court, and all were having a great time.
We met the Candidates for Empress and Emperor for
Reign XXXVII, and enjoyed a fine show sponsored and MC’d by
our Prince and Princess Royales,
Prince Royale AJ, and Princess Royale Justice Paige

As I and Ed made the rounds and
talked to our friends, I took a moment to reflect on the
past year since we joined the Court. It has been a year of
meeting new friends, and participating in many of the
Court’s events that support our community and local
charities.
We are proud to have been a part of Reign

more proud of our Monarchs Emperor

Empress Nicole the Great,
Queen Mother of the

MARRIAGE EQUALITY IN CALIFORNIA - A MESSAGE FROM OUR QUEEN MOTHER:
Dear friends,
Tuesday June 17, 2008. Today was an historic day for the
GLBT
Community in the State of California, as hundred of couples
in nearly
every county in the state were getting married LEGALLY after
the
recent ruling by the State Supreme Court on Marriage
Equality for all
California citizens.
On Monday, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who helped
launch the series of lawsuits that led the court to strike
down California's one-man-one-woman marriage laws, presided
at the first legal same-sex wedding of Del Martin, 87, and
Phyllis Lyon, 83 who have been a
committed couple for 55 years. This was followed by the city
of
Los Angeles, where Robin Tyler and Diane Olson, who were
plaintiffs
in the recent CA Supreme Court decision, were the second
couple to be married in CA, in a traditional religious
Jewish ceremony in Beverly Hills. I have the honor of
knowing these 2 outstanding couples and offer them my
congratulations and best wishes. They are indeed worthy of
the honor bestowed upon them to be the 1st and 2nd to cross
this historic line
As City Commissioner of San Diego, I had the privilege of
marrying
several couples myself, and was also the official witness
for the
fist same-sex married couple in San Diego: former Marine
Sergeant Bob Lehman and fellow City Commissioner Tom Felkner.
This was an
historic day, not only for California, but also for our
entire nation.
While we are making progress, we have along way to go to
catch up to the great nation of Canada, where same-sex
marriage has been legal for sometime – throughout the entire
country. We hope some day that our nation will follow suit
and give the GLBT Community the rights that we so richly
deserve.
Unlike Massachusetts, the State of California will welcome
anyone -
resident or non-resident alike – to be joined in legal
matrimony.
This may be most important even for non-residents, as the
times are
changing swiftly. For example the Governor of the Sate of
New York
has recently decreed that New York will recognize the
legality of
same-sex marriages from other regions, like CA, MA and
Canada.
If any of you who are attending the opening of Parliament
and the San Diego Coronation, would like to be married that
same week, please contact me directly and I will make the
arrangements. In fact, as City Commissioner, I have the
authority to officiate over the
ceremony if you so choose – it would be my honor. Plan to
arrive a
few days before, perhaps Wednesday or Thursday. There is a
nominal fee of $50 for the license.
Congratulations California –today you have given us Marriage
Equality. However, there are those who are fighting to
overturn this
decision. So while we are celebrating and enjoying this
triumph, let
us not let our defenses down - we still have a long road to
travel.
Respectfully,
Nicole

In a long-due recognition that our organization is an
international
one that has chapters in three countries: Canada, Mexico and
the
United States, I proclaim on this day that The Court of
Vancouver,
British Columbia, being the first court to be established in
the

always
being the second court to be presented at all coronations
and
official ICS events.
Further that Ted Northe is and always will have the honor
and respect
to be addressed as Her Most Imperial Majesty Empress Ted
Northe of
Vancouver, B.C.,
Empress of All Canada. Let it be known further that
Empress Ted Northe's title is for life and will be honored
always as
part of her legacy to her community, court and nation.
I also proclaim that The Court of Baja, Mexico will be the third
court to be announced at all coronations and ICS events in
honor of
that court being the first court in Mexico.
My proclamation honoring The Court of San Francisco as the

Official Message from Empress
Nicole the Great, Queen Mother of the
Americas
It my distinct honor, to announce today, that Judy
Shepard will be
our keynote speaker at the opening of Parliament on
Saturday, August
2, in San Diego.
Judy Shepard is the mother of Matthew Shepard,
murdered on October
12th, 1998 for being gay. She is the co-founder of
The Matthew
Shepard Foundation. Judy Shepard's "Erase The Hate"
Project is the
heart of the organization's work and mission.
Hate crimes against the
GLBT Community are on the rise, and this is an
opportunity for the
International Court System to be a part of an
international movement –
one that affects each and every one of us.
Through her national speaking program, Judy Shepard
shares Matthew's
values of respect and dignity for others. She has
said that she is
determined to make a difference - to do what she can
to ensure that
no other parent, family member or friend will have
to endure what she
has. She has traveled the world, speaking to
audiences nationwide
about what they can do to make their schools and
communities more
accepting of everyone, regardless of sex, national
origin, race,
religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender
identity and/or
expression.
------------------------------------------------------
On August 2, 2008 the historic opening session of
the ICC Parliament
will occur at the San Diego LGBT Community Center,
2312 El Cajun
Blvd. All are welcome to attend. Only Seated Members
of Parliament
will be permitted to actively participate, however
the session will
be open to all who wish to observe. By the end of
this month,
guidelines for Parliament will be distributed to you
by the Prime
Minister.
I am very very excited to have Judy Shepard join us
on this momentous
occasion. Each Kingdom across the US and Canada has
their own
charities and community causes –however, I am
certain that the
movement to rid our lives of violence and hate and
crimes against the
GLBT Community is a common cause.

MARCH 24 2008:
By The
Imperial Team de San Diego
Members of the Imperial Court de San Diego,
Imperial Family and All Interested Parties of the
San Diego Empire,
It is with growing anticipation and baited breath
that We announce Our decision, in solidarity with
the Board of Directors of the Imperial Court de San
Diego, to appoint Justice Paige Counce as Princess
Royale to serve out the remaining 2008-2009 term
with the Imperial Team.
In this decision, We searched Our hearts,
tempered with Our love for the Court, Our service to
Our Empire and Our sworn fealty to each of you, to
objectively consider all eligible persons to find
the appropriate and energetic individual who would
serve with Us to uphold the initiatives and goals We
have set in each of Our elected terms. After
consultation of all nominees with Empress Chantal,
We enthusiastically support Justice’s appointment.
Our judgment sets with Us well, as We hope you
will understand, in bringing a determined and
dedicated servant to all of you as the Princess
Royale. This position must be held by an individual
with resolve and strength of will that shall
coalesce into the fourth cornerstone of the trust
you have placed in Us.
Justice has proven her determination to serve Our
Empire in her past candidacies for both the Princess
Royale and Empress positions. Consultation and many
discussions with Justice have proven to us the
bottom line is that she is ready for this
appointment and defines a line between a pageant
title and a working title. For those concerned, she
knows and understands the difference between these
titles and is willing to roll-up her sleeves and
provide the benefit of her talents and abilities for
the advantage of the deserving community We call
home. Her loving outlook in the charitable works and
programs propagated by the Court and her impressive
list of accomplishments both publicly and privately
have impressed Us.
Justice has held, with no reproach, public titles
that span the spectrum of various pageant systems
throughout Our Empire and her reputation is
reminiscent of many service records held by Our own
Imperial Family. Privately, Justice is a very
spiritual person who reveres service to community
often beyond many needs and desires. As a proven
point, she took time out of her personal schedule
after her occupation hosting "Gospel Brunch" at Lips
Restaurant to come to the Community Easter Egg Hunt
to display her desire to reach out with Us to Our
community.
Our own Prince Royale, AJ, served with her in the
Empire of the Imperial Sovereign Court of the Ice
Castle (currently the Imperial Court of Minnesota)
and has first-hand knowledge of the caliber and
level of her achievements and work ethic.
We are confident that Justice will serve you well
and We are excited of the prospect of continued and
expanding outreach to all communities, ethnicities,
social circles and characteristics of America’s
Finest Empire.
We look forward to all of you joining Us as We
welcome Justice into Our Imperial Family and We
challenge you to expand the work you all do in your
circles to include the power of Justice. While the
balance of Justice’s service will become evident
over the course of her service through next year, We
are confident that you will trust Our decision and
be pleasantly surprised in her energetic intensity.
Now it is time to give Justice your support and
give her a chance.

MARCH 22 2008:
By The
Imperial Team de San Diego

To the Membership of the Imperial Court de San
Diego, Members Far & Wide of the Imperial Family,
and All Interested Parties of the San Diego Empire,
This month we send you greetings of trust, honor and
respect. These greetings comprise the triad of core
values within
San Diego's distinguished and
historic Leather Community.
With a history going back far into the memories of
many respected and loved pillars of our San Diego
community, the traditions and customs of our shared
Leather, Kink, Fetish and BDSM inclinations often
become perceived and handled in a ridiculing,
objectionable, disrespectful and offensive manner.
Yet, it is just this adversity that makes our
history so deeply imbedded in our minds and in our
daily lives that we hardly pay it scant attention or
give it the fuel it needs to fan the flames of
controversy. At least that is what WE do. Those who
are outside of our Leather Community and who do not
wish to engage, learn, partake or observe our
habits, passions and values will never understand
that it is the adversity that binds us together.
Each and every one of us in this community came into
the community through our own path, forged by our
own emotions, feelings and desires. We each came to
a realization that our emotional, physical,
spiritual, sexual and mental needs somehow missed
that whiff of hide, squeak of polish, whisper of
fiber and feel of metal offered by this world
portrayed in dark, black, oppressive overtones. The
method by which and the circumstances surrounding
when and how, in each of our lives, we came to this
realization does not matter. What mattered then,
what matters now and what will matter in our future
is that we found a sodality of brethren and sisters
to preserve the saga that was started by our Leather
Family before us, is perpetuated by our Leather
Family within us and will continue with our Leather
Family after us. We speak among each other in
languages that echo traditional filial piety that
spans dominant-submissive relationships that vary
from Master/Mistresses and their slaves to the
versatile who flip any way they want.
So, here we are. America’s
Finest Leather Community. In that characterization,
we honor America’s Finest Leathermen and
Leatherwomen.
It is in this spirit that We, the Imperial Team,
commend the work that has been accomplished by the
infinite and amazing dedication of the San Diego
Leather Pride Committee. Their execution of the
events during this year’s Leather Pride Week was
beyond expectations and resulted in another fine
family reunion of which all may be proud. We
especially commend the collaboration and innovation
created by the San Diego Leather Pride Committee and
Stepping Stone to create a safe space where
leathermen and leatherwomen are able to address
their recovery needs in a safe and welcoming
environment. We already are honor-bound to negotiate
our leather scenes; why would one need to negotiate
their recovery scene?
Congratulations to Ms. San Diego Leather 2008 Lady
Donna Tello and Mr. San Diego Leather 2008 Sydney
McFadden. We look forward to working with them,
welcoming them throughout Our Empire and visiting
them in their Leather. Fantastic accolades to Ms. San Diego Leather 2007 Alyssa Mae and Mr. San Diego Leather 2007 Lee
Butler. We send best luck wishes to Lee as he
prepares to compete in Chicago for the prestigious
title of Mr. International Leather this coming May
and We are confidant that his performance,
presentation and representation of the San Diego
Leather Community will be extraordinary and make us
all proud.
We also join with Councilmember Toni Atkins of San
Diego Council District 3 and City Commissioner
Nicole Murray-Ramirez of the Human Relations
Commission, Queen Mother of the Americas in honoring
His Imperial Majesty, Emperor I After Norton, "Mr.
Marcus" Hernandez, for his four decades of tireless
work in various communities and acknowledge his
place as the Patriarch in the pantheon of the
International Leather Community.
With that, We, the Imperial Team, ask all of you to
search you inner souls and and encourage you to
relent to that temptation to explore an alternative
side.
One never knows. One may just want to get kinky.

Resignation of Michelle Masters-Cartier from the

By The
Imperial Team de San Diego
Thursday, March 13, 2008
Board of Directors of the ICSD,
Members of the Imperial Family de San Diego,
Members of Reign XXXVI,
And all other residents of the San Diego Empire,
It is with heavy hearts but joy for future prospects
that We inform you of the willing resignation of
Michelle Masters-Cartier from the Office of Princess
Royale to the Imperial Court de San Diego.
Many of you have understood and understand the
demands placed upon a person as an elected
representative of this fine organization. While Our
efforts as Monarchs and Royales are directed to
forwarding the objectives and fundraising
initiatives set by the Board of Directors and the
Membership, Our personal efforts and lives are
placed on hold or suppressed to not compete with the
service of Our positions.
Above all, we must all remember that we serve in a
tremendously helpful and beneficial organization
that has raised countless monies and regards for
people all over the United States, Canada and Mexico
for over forty years and our San Diego community for
decades. In our service, we sometimes forget that
our personal lives, loves and liberties must be
given the priority they deserve; in fact, ignoring
personal situations do not serve the goals or
objectives of the ICSD’s public benefit.
In the discharge of her duties as Princess Royale,
Michelle has served to the best of her ability but
has made a wise and thoughtful decision that her
service to the ICSD as Princess Royale must be cut
short in order that service to herself may regain
the priority that it needs to ensure her quality of
life. Through much consideration, soul-searching and
mental evaluation, Michelle has chosen to focus her
energies and intentions on re-ordering her life and
priorities.
We stand in solidarity behind Michelle and offer her
any assistance that We, as the Imperial Team, may or
may be asked to offer. We ask you, our Family,
Membership and Colleagues to respect Michelle’s
decision and, in the same spirit of cooperation,
love and respect, offer succor to any you may know
who may be in the same situation.
We salute and honor Michelle for being courageous to
stand up for herself, take a risk and do the right
thing. We thank each and every one of you for the
comfortable and safe environment that has been
created where we can all respect and be respected
which allows for open communication, trust and
teamwork.

ICSD Elects Representatives for the Imperial Court System
Parliament:
By Emperor Daddy Don:
Dear Fellow Court Members, The
International Court System Parliament has been established
with the intent of providing more involvement and direct
communication with the various empires of the International
Court System. It is the intent to formulate a system by
which to implement a parliamentary system within the ICS
designed to communicate directly with the Council. The
Imperial Court de San Diego proudly announces that we have
elected Crown Prince Christopher Grinston as a member of
that Parliament. He will be the representative of San Diego
in the coming Parliament meeting during San Diego's
Coronation weekend, the first weekend of August. This
elected member of the Imperial Court de San Diego must be in
good standing and with a minimum of 2 years Court
involvement to run for this position. Mr. Grinston is the
primary and Adam Latham is the elected alternate. The person
with the most votes is the primary and the person with the
second largest votes is the alternate. This election for the
Parliament Member was held at the Prince and Princess Royale
Ball last evening.
Crown Princess
Brenda Watson Receives this Year's Mark Huntley Community
Award:
The Board of Directors and the Monarchs of
the 36th Reign of the Imperial Court de San Diego are proud
to announce that the recipient of this year's Mark Huntley
Community Award is Crown Princess Brenda Watson.
The Mark Huntley Community Award is a
unique honor which is bestowed on those individuals who have
generously given their time and energies to best fill the
needs of the community. not only within the Court, but for
the LGBT community as a whole. You, as members of the
Imperial Court de San Diego, have been included as part of
this journey of service and we fully trusted the Board's
judgment in picking the individual who has best fulfilled
our needs.
The individual that you chose has demonstrated
that they have been inspired by some great purpose or some
extraordinary project and so that these their thoughts can
break all bonds. Their minds have transcended limitations
and allowed their consciousness to expand in every
direction.
When this potential is released and directed into
constructive action, we come to realize that this is a true
servant to the community. It was my sincere hope that my
thoughts have resonated in your hearts as you undertook the
difficult task of choosing a worthy honoree. This person is
an individual who does not view their community service as a
job, but as a driving passion from within to serve those who
are in need throughout Our San Diego community.
The Board has had the distinction of making this
choice, because they all possess that same driving passion
and commitment to serve our community and can best recognize
those qualities in an outstanding individual. This trust has
been placed in them and we are confident that they have made
the right choice.
Thank you, Ms. Watson for all you do and have
done for Our Court and the GLBT community as a whole.
With the utmost respect, love and sincerest humility,
The 36th elected Emperor
of the Imperial Court de San Diego
The Leather Emperor "Daddy" Don
